VA3 revision RGB video signal vs VA5

[Released: 1988] The Sega Genesis was Sega's most successful console; though Sega has never released a total sales figure quote. Several add-ons were created including the Sega CD and Sega 32X which extended its capabilities.

VA3 revision RGB video signal vs VA5

Post by /genesis »

I've been using a japanese console (va5) for around 1 month, now i've also purchased an american console (va3) and i've noticed a difference in the image between them through rgb scart.

It's subtle but i can definitely notice it mainly in the list of everdrive roms by the crisper letters on the Japanese one along with more visible jail bars, btw the difference in jail bars is as subtle as the difference in sharpness.

I didn't expect this as there are no reports of difference in the RGB output of both revisions but i'll ask you anyway, could the VA3 board have some filter? Cause i don't think it's a coincidence that i notice the jail bars less visible in the board which i perceive to be a bit softer as well.

PS: Scart cable, converter and crt tv are the same on both consoles of course.
