Why do so many games feel clunky when SMB got it so right early on?
The first console I ever played was the NES in the 90s, and the first titles I ever played were Super Mario Bros and Zelda. So my question is, why do so many NES games movement feel so clunky, ridged, and sticky when SMB felt so intuitive and easy to pick up for even a small child?
Just for example, the movement in midair during a jump?
This came up recently because I got a Retroid set up and have been going through the old NES library, and it's just amazing to me how good SMB movement feels to play compared to so many other titles. Any thoughts?
