PS2 making loud noises on start up I think it’s the disc reader/laser

I’ve had my original PS2 for over 20 years now. Got it spring of 2003. It’s the original version I think people call it the Fat PS2. I did buy the final Slim PS2 on clearance in 2011 after being discontinued and it might be time to finally start using that one.

My Fat PS2 makes loud sounds on start up and seems to be related to disc reading. If I move the console around (pick it up and set it down) before starting up then it does not make the noise, but it will make that noise next start up.

Any advice on repair? Even though I have that Slim backup console which I’m glad I bought since PS2 has always been my all time fav console I still would like to save my original 2003 console as it means so much to me. Played so many great PS1 and PS2 games on it.
