will the nes zap gun work on a black and white tv (monochrome)

i own about 3 old monochrome tvs from the 1980s and i wonder if the nintendo zapper would work fine on it. i know modern flatscreen tvs wonk work on it so would black and white tv do. i never really found the awnser to that question but anybody tried this or know about if it works or not.
