What else might we have seen the Dreamcasts expansion port used for?

[Released: 1998] Born out of Sega's darkest hour to decide whether the company stays in the hardware business. Even though it didn't officially last long in the US, it was continued selling in Japan and spawned some great 2D Japanese shooters.

What else might we have seen the Dreamcasts expansion port used for?

Notoriously it was used for the build in modem, giving the Dreamcast internet accessibility out of the box. First of its kind. But seeing as it's labeled "Extension", it definitely seems Sega wanted to keep it open for future hardware add on's.

So what do you guys think could have been added to the Dreamcast through this expansion port? My first guess is a DVD player.
