First time Dreamcast buyer. Tips?

[Released: 1998] Born out of Sega's darkest hour to decide whether the company stays in the hardware business. Even though it didn't officially last long in the US, it was continued selling in Japan and spawned some great 2D Japanese shooters.

I am planning on getting myself a Dreamcast pretty soon. I've wanted one for years, so I'm excited to say the least! Is there anything I should know before jumping in? Obviously I know that you need a VMU to save games and everything, but other than that is there any big things I should know about? Also, any game recommendations would be great. I'm a big fan of Platformers (3D especially) and RPGs but anything goes really. My Dreamcast watchlist is so long already!
