Is it just me or is The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles for the NES insanely cruel and unfairly difficult?

[Released: 1983] The best-selling gaming console of its time. With the NES, Nintendo introduced a now-standard business model of licensing third-party developers, authorizing them to produce and distribute software for Nintendo's platform.

Limited continues. Only a couple of hits and you're dead. An odd health system with the hat and weapons. Indy can't keep his iconic whip if he gets hit either. The first level alone has cannonballs that come out of nowhere and hit you. Plus a bunch of quicksand pits and a tornado too?! Rocks that drop out of nowhere during the cave boss battle and can't be predicted? And even a wild horse can damage you.

By the time I got to the World War I level ( level 2 no less!), I had had enough. And this level drops artillery shells on you that can't be predicted and has biplane with shots that are nearly impossible to avoid!

The first few levels of Ninja Gaiden 1 are a cakewalk compared to this nightmare. Please tell me I'm not the only one who feels this way.
