Raspberry pi pico bad USB not functioning correctly

I've gone through the steps on dbisu's GitHub page but I can't make it work with my pi pico. Ive followed the steps 3 times and no luck. I started by holding the button to reset and successfully flashing the newest version of firmware. When plugged in windows says "there's a problem with this drive, scan to fix it now" it shows as drive E. It seems like it won't show up as a HID device despite in the lib folder having adafruit_hid adafruit_wgsi adafruit_debouncer.mpy adafruit_ticks.mpy and asyncio. In the root section is lib, boot.py, boot_out, code.py, payload, settings.toml, webapp.py, wsgiserver.py. im stumped as it has the adafruit hid folder in lib but doesn't appear as a hid. The pico is showing as CIRCUITPY so the firmware is fine.
