Official Super Famicom Mono AV Cable SHVC-007

[Released: 1990] The SNES was the best-selling console of the 16-bit era despite its relatively late start and the fierce competition it faced. The console was able to run some of the first three-dimensional video games on consoles, beginning with Star Fox.

Official Super Famicom Mono AV Cable SHVC-007

Today I was pondering the best methods of connecting a SNES to an old TV with composite video and only one audio input. Some SNES games have an option for mono sound, but not all. RF is an option, but quality is worse. The SNES manual tells you to use a Y-adapter to combine the two audio channels, but the Super Famicom manual tells you to use an official mono audio cable SHVC-007, which is available on eBay.

Questions:

Has anyone used this?

Is the result any different than simply plugging in the white lead of the stereo cable?

Is the result any different than combining the channels with a Y-adapter?

Does this page from the SFC manual contain any useful information? (I can't read Japanese)
