Help with optical replacement. Can the resistance be too low and prevent function?

Post by /gamecube »

Got our DOL-001 out of a multi-decade storage and it wont read discs. Read on adjusting pot, and reduced it down by ~25 ohm bumps until I was reading below 90 ohms on the pot. Figured the laser was bad, so I ebayed another.
It just arrived, and I started the resistance at 450 at the pot and essentially the same thing happened. Did I just get another bad laser? Could the resistance be too low on a DOL-001 and prevent proper reading? I am so frustrated with the thing at this point it is close to seeing a hammer...
Any advice?
