What is Everyone's opinion on buying clone mods for PSX or other consoles?

[Released: 1994] Sony entered into an agreement with Nintendo to develop a CD-ROM attachment, for the Super Nintendo. Due to contractual problems it was never released, and instead, a modified version was introduced by Sony called the PlayStation.

I've seen a lot of back and forth relating to the ethics behind buying a clone version of PSIO and wireless controller adapters as well as replacement shells. What is your opinion? The PSIO creator seems to have a very strong opinion when it comes to the subject...
