Why so many updates on Xbox?

Why so many updates on Xbox?

My son gave me his old OG Xbox, I’ve always had a PlayStation and I like Xbox for being able to mod Skyrim but I absolutely hate having these regular updates and that I can’t just ignore them and still be online. I had one update last week and now another today.
