Question about discs. (Resurfacing)

[Released: 2005] As the second console from Microsoft, the XBOX 360 completely sold out upon release in all regions except in Japan. About 33% of all consoles became defective making it the most unreliable console ever created.

Question about discs. (Resurfacing)

Post by /xB360 »

So if you've ever looked at the silvery underside of a 360 game and move it around to reflect it in the light, you know it can show you a full rainbow of different colours (Interference Patterns).
Anyway, I've had various scratched up discs in the past or have come across discs which have probably been resurfaced show odd "rainbow puddles" (like when rain and petrol mix) that either mark around disc like rings or exist as odd patches.
(Games still work fine anyways and I install them to my Hard Drive when I want to play them to avoid wear.)
Is there a name or definition of this effect on discs?
