OG Super famicom PAL mod unknown switches

[Released: 1990] The SNES was the best-selling console of the 16-bit era despite its relatively late start and the fierce competition it faced. The console was able to run some of the first three-dimensional video games on consoles, beginning with Star Fox.

OG Super famicom PAL mod unknown switches

Post by /snes »

I wonder if anyone can help with this. I found my original Super Famicom recently. It was an imported Japanese model that was converted to UK PAL (240v, 50hz) before it was officially released here.
I've since discovered theres 2 switches on the bottom, and cannot remember what these are for (there are no markings)
Anyone have any ideas? I might be able to open it and photo the wires to the chips if its not immediately obvious. It isnt anything to do with region unlocking afaik, as I had to use the piggy back double cartridge method to get US/UK games to run.
And again, its from around 1991 so is not going to be anything modern. Part of me thinks 50/60hz switch maybe? but would that need 2 crystal oscillators installed?
( I cant find any games at the moment so cant really turn it on to test it)
