Back stamp authenticity

Post by /n64 »

Part of our toolkit for weeding out repro carts involves checking the back of the cartridge for a production stamped. I've never really worried about the specific numbers in the stamp, as I don't see any references out there to match authentic games with production lines. I imagine these might vary quite a bit too and still be authentic. However, after a game shop offered to swap the back of the cart I was buying with the back of a random, clean sports title they had, it got me thinking...
How do we know if the back shell is from the right game and does it matter to you? Right now I see a very clean Super Bowling on ebay and the 00 stamp is the only thing I'm unsure about (I see other authentic carts with a 41).
