PSP 3000 - memory stick reading issue

Hey guys, I’ve been interested in modding my childhood PSP for years, and have finally bought a new charger to start the process. When I booted it up, it said there is no memory stick inserted, even though the original Sony 1 GB memory stick is still in the system. I ordered a sandisk 32GB micro SD with an adapter, but I’m wondering what the explanation is for this issue! Any help is greatly appreciated.
