Lets talk about the biggest con in the history of video games; MGS2 and its demo!

Post by /playstation2 »

Many here will remember when the MGS2 demo came out for PS2. Demo that featured most of the awesome ship level in the game.
Everyone played the demo to death and kept foaming to their friends about how absolutely amazing all the raindrops and the fogging effects were, and how amazingly detailed the ship and the enemies and so on.
And everyone ran to buy the game day one.
And then were blown away for different reason. For MGS2 turned out to take place on a series of boring, barren platforms, featuring some of the silliest bosses ever, and it did not even have Snake as main hero. Not to mention most of the game had us running back and forth between platforms like in some tatty NES game. Sure, the ship level was still there, but it was only few minutes longer than in the demo so did nothing to alleviate the negative vibes.
So, we were completely conned, by Kojima and Konami, to buy a mediocre and boring game that delivered nothing that was promised.
I say its the biggest demo con ever. For I've played computer and video games since the 80's, and honestly cannot remember any other time when a brilliant demo would have fooled so many into buying rubbish game.
There are, of course, many fake trailer and fake gameplay cons, such as with Cyberpunk pre-release stuff, but when it comes to demo cons, MGS2 is still the biggest one.
Refund!!!
