Rumor of Sony Acquiring CD Projekt RED Is Pretty Shaky

Post by PlayStationLifestyle »

A rumor has been circulating that Sony is acquiring CD Projekt RED and has approached the studio multiple times with the offer of an acquisition. Normally, we dismiss random tweets but this one got picked up by several outlets because a self-proclaimed industry analyst jumped in to say that the rumor is true. However, upon digging a little bit, it all sounds like a load of hogwash.
[h=2]Sony acquiring CD Projekt RED isn’t outside the realm of possibility[/h]When it comes to games industry acquisitions, never say never, if Microsoft’s impending acquisition of Activision Blizzard and Sony’s purchase of Bungie are anything to go by. However, the source of this particular rumor is a random tweet, that was further picked up by another user, which was then picked up by one @LumberjackRy with over 2,000 followers with this tweet:
[INDENT]It’s not a rumor, Sony has approached CD Projekt multiple times. Hence why CD did that entire thing with announcing several The Witcher games alongside new Cyberpunk, it’s to boost their stock before acquisition. https://t.co/FBzNdJEfqU

LumberjackRy happens to the same user who previously speculated that Sony will acquire Square Enix, Capcom, Konami, Embracer, Crytek, Sega, and Ubisoft by 2030. Needless to say, the chances of their tweet being true are slim to none. Sorry, folks. Nothing to see here.
