why is it that my gamecube refuses to read discs?

i literally am using the most pristine condition disc you will ever see, and itll spin for a bit, then stop. its like a 1/200 chance it works. very rarely i can actually play a game. and i bought a new disc drive too cuz i had this same problem before. like none of my discs work in this pos, and my wii reads games absolutely fine. why is this happening?
