Best alternative controller?

I dug my 360 out this evening and played some Burnout 3 (still the best racer ever!) and want to go back and play some 360 classics that aren't backward compatible with the Series consoles.
However, I didn't get on that well with the controller. I found the triggers to narrow and the ABXY buttons a bit hard.
Is there any alternative 360 controllers that are held in high regard? Especially with better triggers.
Or, is there a way of using an Xbox One or Series controller with a 360?
