MicroSD vs USB (Reliability)

I was wondering what the general consensus is between a microSD using an adapter or a regular USB drive?
Assuming resistors bridged and of equal quality products.
I'd prefer to stick with the same storage device long term so I can plug and play with less concern for corruption. I recently saw a YouTuber use a 512GB microSD card in an adapter whereas before I believed thumbdrives were preferred. I've since noticed many recommend microSD + adapter usage.
Thoughts?
