Any idea why a Pi would fail to work one day but ok after being left off for 12 hours?

I have a Pi 4 8GB that all of a sudden wouldn’t work with the sd card I had been using for months, I setup a new sd card and the Pi would work fine. I decided to turn the Pi off for 12 hours+ and put the original sd card back in (the one that wasn’t working) and behold the Pi is back working. Just wondering if there is a reason why this would happen or is it probably just a glitch?
