pi 4 is no longer detectable on PC

I followed the steps on https://raspberrytips.com/run-raspberry ... l-machine/ and downloaded VirtualBox and Raspberry Pi Desktop. after installing on the pi, it is supposed to reboot then display the desktop. but for me after the installation is complete, it just shows the black window with the blinking cursor. it doesn't reboot.
and to make matters worse, the board is no longer being detected by MATLAB (which I was running my program on). it worked before doing the virtual machine thing, but now it's not detectable any more. I reinstalled the MATLAB support package following https://www.mathworks.com/videos/instal ... 94266.html but that's not working anymore either. after inserting the SD card into the board and trying to install the firmware but it wasn't able to detect the pi.

the goal is to run a program written in MATLAB onto the board to process a video and display it on the PC
