Creating a Full Size MIDI Piano

Post by /RaspberryPi »

Hey guys, I’m new to the world of micro controllers and RPI. I want to make a full size (88key) midi piano. I’ve seen smaller sized midi pianos and other MIDI controllers — but they were all smaller sized/less inputs.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but if I want velocity sensitive input for all keys, I would need 176 pins. One for the initial input and one when it hits the bottom to determine how fast that key is pushed.
The Pi Pico W has 40 pins. If I added an expansion header, wouldn’t there be multiple inputs per pin then? If that was the case would it he able to differentiate between each input?
Is there an easier way to do this that I’m overlooking?
