Continuity between 5V and Gnd.

Lost communication with a pair of muxed i2c sensors powered by 5V on a Pi 3B—their addresses pop on i2c scan, though. On checking connections noticed continuity between 5V and Gnd. Disconnected everything and traced back the issue to Pi pins themselves. The pi boots and other than the sensor issue had not noticed any other loss of function. Fan and solenoids powered by 5V rail were working fine. Any ideas as to what caused this issue or what capabilities have been lost. Thanks in advance.
