Is this normal? bought a model 1

[Released: 1988] The Sega Genesis was Sega's most successful console; though Sega has never released a total sales figure quote. Several add-ons were created including the Sega CD and Sega 32X which extended its capabilities.

It is normal for the model 1 (the one with the high definition graphics) to get really hot in the upper part? Also i opnened it and dosent have the upper metal frame, so the thing getting hot is like a metal cube in the left side of the board, should i get another one? Thank you everyone for answering and the wisdom :)
