Transistor not switching closed

Post by /RaspberryPi »

I have an NPN transistor with the base connected to a GPIO pin, with a 470 ohm resistor. The transistor is meant to switch on the "push-to-talk" button on a 2-way radio. The transistor works as expected when a power supply set to 3v3 is connected to the base and turned on. The transistor does not let current through, however, when this is instead connected to a raspberry pi GPIO pin. What would cause this?
