Is there any downside to getting the 2DS XL instead of the New 3ds XL?

[Released: 2011] The 3DS is similar to the DS, but is capable of projecting stereoscopic 3D effects without the use of 3D glasses or additional accessories. A redesigned "XL" version of the console was also released.

What i mean is the new 2ds XL does everything the the other one does but the only difference is no 3D right?
I wanna get it but I'll be bummed if I find out later that I can't play original DS games on it or something.
