CD ROM2 games making loud static sounds during loading

The CD-ROM² is an add-on attachment for the PC Engine that was released in Japan in 1988 and allows the core versions of the console to play PC Engine games in CD-ROM format in addition to standard HuCards. This made the PC Engine the first video game console to use CD-ROMs as a storage media.

CD ROM2 games making loud static sounds during loading

Post by /turboG16 »

I recently repaired a CD ROM2 with replacing the gear and realigning the potentiometer pots, after getting it working the games run perfectly and load fine but whenever there's any loading I'll hear a loud screeching and spontaneous static sound come from the TV for 1-3 seconds. I'm using the IFU-30 and the PC Engine works perfectly without a hitch but I'm only getting this on the CD ROM2 if anyone would have any idea what might be causing it? I've double checked all the capacitors and they all look healthy, no corrosion on the board etc either.
