SEGA Saturn, Shiro! is proud to present our latest podcast episode and the premiere of our fourth season: S4E1, Realtime Stories with Mr. David Warhol. Headlining the podcast is an exclusive interview with Mr. David Warhol, president and founder of video game studio Realtime Associates. Realtime is responsible for a total of seven Saturn titles, most famously the launch title Bug! Also notable is the debut of the newest member of the Shiro team, Nick Broadway! Nick is known for his first-class Saturn YouTube content under the stage name PandaMonium. SEGA Saturn, Shiro! is extremely impressed with the quality of Nick’s content, and excited to welcome Nick to the Shiro family. Patrick resumes hosting duties and is joined by fellow Shiros K, Peter, Ben and Nick. The team dives into the vast amount of Saturn news, then enjoy the in-depth conversation with Mr. Warhol, who provides a fascinating, detailed glimpse into the life of a SEGA Saturn third party developer. Prepare for some stunning insights! § How the Saturn almost – almost! – had a fully 3D Sonic the Hedgehog game at launch, § A third party’s perspective of developing for the Saturn vs. the PlayStation, § Developing for Saturn right at the beginning of the system’s life as compared to towards the end, § Discussion about the state of the industry, § A frank conversation about emulation and enjoying retro games in today’s day and age, § And much, much more! Opening the Podcast is a plethora of Saturn news, from the upcoming wireless, licensed Retro-bit controllers to the PolyMega to the Bandai Saturn model kits. It is certainly an exciting time to be a Saturn fan! The episode doesn’t feature an existing Saturna Obscura – an obscure Saturn game in line with the podcast topic – however, Nick gives us a well-rounded look at the recently leaked Beta version of Saturn Star Wars: Rebel Strike. Surprisingly playable, this leak is more than just a few lines of code. We close the episode with some reaction to the conversation with Mr. Warhol, team updates (find us at PRGE!), as well as a musical track referenced by Mr. Warhol, the Bug Bop, before signing off with some funny outtakes from the recording session.

[Released: 1994] While it was popular in Japan, the Saturn failed to gain a similar market share in North America and Europe against its main competitors. The Saturn's dual-CPU architecture was the source of some difficulty for developers.
