PC engine mini controller not working UPDATE.

Post by /turboG16 »

To cut a long story short, ever since it was announced I really wanted to get my hands on the PC engine mini or Core Grafx here in the UK. When it was announced it had been delayed I was mega bummed but was then super hyped about how Japan were still getting the PC engine mini around that original spring launch. I ordered it, loved it! but sadly due to the pandemic and job security I retroactively decided that the purchase couldn’t be justified so I sold it on. I was later told by the guy I’d sold it to that the consoles controller never worked, he couldn’t pick the language and so on.
I always intended that when the money was good I’d get another but all the stuff I was reading on forums was really putting me off. I’d emailed Hori and never received a response. I’d emailed Konami Europe multiple times and they always told me that they had no update on any the production of the console or whether it was being resolved.
Well, after all that I have potentially great news.
I recently made an eBay purchase of a Pc engine CoreGrafx mini console . It was listed as new and more importantly it was listed specifically as being a “revised modelâ€￾ the listing made the claim that it was a newer model which has been addressed to not have issues with the USB ports.
The listing stated this.
“This is the fixed revision S/N 010xxxxx that has the USB ports fixed. Models starting 009xxxxxx have faulty USB ports that fail immediately or after a few weeks. The only way to check is the serial number on the consoleâ€￾.
Before making the purchase I made an enquiry to the seller asking how he knew it was ‘fixed’.
Essentially this was his reply.
‘You’d have to search on Japanese forms for confirmation, but I bought a fixed model number on import from Japan. This one I got from a European seller who could confirm the number. It seems all the UK Amazon models are the old revisions’.
I asked if he had any website links he could direct me to so I could check the serial number of the units to see if they were “revisedâ€￾.
‘I got the info from the comments on the Japanese Amazon page, that referenced another site kakaku.com which has a BBS on the console.’
I can’t read Japanese and this was the first instance where I had ever heard anything regarding the problem being addressed so I trusted my gut and made the purchase. I’m not going to take my chances with the power adapter. I’m using the Nintendo branded AC adapter they sold for their classic mini lines. I know that anyone can write anything in an eBay listing in order to make a sale and that this shouldn’t be considered gospel. I’ve only had the system a few days now so time will tell...( I’ll update if anything does go wrong)
It’s just I spent much time trawling through now archived posts on this topic to no avail, so I thought I’d share this in case anyone was in a similar position as I was wondering what the hell was going on.
Please feel free to share this around. Long live the PC Engine!
