What is it with 3DS Shin Megami Tensei games being review bombed on Metacritic?

[Released: 2011] The 3DS is similar to the DS, but is capable of projecting stereoscopic 3D effects without the use of 3D glasses or additional accessories. A redesigned "XL" version of the console was also released.

It happened to all of them but worst of all is Strange Journey Redux. I've been on a dungeon crawler kick lately and decided to get it before looking at review scores. There are hundreds of negative scores but only like 10 reviews total. Is this just some esoteric fandom BS or is the game really that bad? Official reviews are pretty stelar. I hope I didn't make a mistake getting it.
