Can the NES Classic just delete all the modded games without warning?

Can the NES Classic just delete all the modded games without warning?

I purchased an NES Classic a year ago and had it modded through a friend. Recently, I lent it to someone recently and when I plugged it in, it’s just the stock 30. Any ideas?
