Dumb question re: hakchi

I tried uploading a selection of the nes games on hakchi to my snes classic, and it looked in the program like all was well, but when I plugged the snes back into the tv, nothing new was there. I did, however, see the hakchi display initially before the original display of snes classic games showed up.
A couple details/questions: - I skipped the “add box artworkâ€￾ step, is this essential? - are the nes games on the hakchi roms that i can include or do I need to actually go get roms?
