Turbo express power switching?

[Released: 1990] The TurboExpress is a handheld video game console by NEC, released in late 1990 in Japan and the United States. It is essentially a portable version of the TurboGrafx-16 home console that came two to three years earlier, and was released as the PC Engine GT in Japan.

How does the turbo express handle switching from battery to DC, and vice versa? I can't find this anywhere, and it's not something I'm willing to test on a irreplaceable item like a TE. Anyone already know this?
