Mario Maker proves the [old] 3DS devices are more capable

[Released: 2011] The 3DS is similar to the DS, but is capable of projecting stereoscopic 3D effects without the use of 3D glasses or additional accessories. A redesigned "XL" version of the console was also released.

Just finished playing through the included courses in Super Mario Maker for the 3DS. There are many Super Mario World themed levels that perform flawlessly on my door stopper 2DS.

Was Nintendo able to get more from the older hardware than they initially thought? I have a hard time believing the SNES Mario levels are more processor-intensive than those in Mario Maker.
