How do I unlink an NNID from one 3DS so I can attach the same NNID to a new 3DS?

[Released: 2011] The 3DS is similar to the DS, but is capable of projecting stereoscopic 3D effects without the use of 3D glasses or additional accessories. A redesigned "XL" version of the console was also released.

My son's 3DS is old so I'm giving him my Majoras Mask edition. His Nintendo Network ID is attached to his old 3DS and my NNID is attached to the MM 3DS. Since he's a child his NNID is supervised, don't know if that matters.
Is there a way to unlink his NNID and then link it to the MM 3DS?
