Are GC analog sticks supposed to pull out a little bit?

[Released: 2001] The GameCube, with the Game Boy Player attachment, it is able to play Game Boy/Color, and Game Boy Advance titles. It's successor, the Wii, supports backward compatibility. Panasonic released a DVD player hybrid Gamecube.

So I'm getting rid of old controllers and noticed that the analog sticks pull out a bit, is this normal?

It happens on normal GC controller, oddly enough, not on my WaveBird.
​
Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm just noticing
