What am I doing wrong setting up my GD-EMU?

No matter what I do, no matter how I format this SD card, my GD-EMU clone refuses to function. I have been working on this god-forsaken thing for a week. In the time I have taken trying and failing to get this stupid thing working, I could have worked and just bought a lot of the games I installed on the SD card.

What am I doing wrong? Is there some obscure procedure I'm missing? Is it because I'm not renaming all my disc images to "disc.gdi"? Did I install it incorrectly? Was I sent a defective unit? I pray to god that I can find the answer.
