Why does people prefer traditional d-pad buttons over the directional buttons the joycons and Pro Controller have?

[Released: 2017] The Switch is considered by Nintendo as a "hybrid" console. The main console unit connects to a television and can be removed from the dock and can function similar to a tablet through its LCD touchscreen. The system is region free.

What the title says.
I don't understand it tbh. I saw an eXtremeRate case for the joycons with proper d-pad, and the Hori Zelda one with a d-pad, and I don't get it. Actually, I usually hate d-pads that are a complete piece à la Xbox One/Series X, or the old Nintendo controllers. I actually prefer separated buttons like the Playstation ones or the Switch ones.
