If you physically can't use ethernet, then a network bridge to your laptop is pretty good.

While not the full speed of my internet, I get much faster speeds than just using the PS3's built in WiFi. All you need is an ethernet cable from your laptop to your PS3.

Instructions: In adapter settings (run command ncpa.cpl) in Windows, right click your WiFi adapter and go to properties, then turn on sharing, and choose the ethernet adapter. You may need to force the ethernet adapter to "private" in secpol.msc (ignore any errors you get when you launch this). After that set up the connection on the PS3 with the "wired" option and everything else automatic. It should just work.
