Questions about downgrading

Hi everyone, brand new to vita hacking here and have a clean vita with me running 3.74. As I’m doing my research before I dive in after reformatting, I’m seeing that people are reccomending downgrading their vita. As i’m looking at the vita hacks guide, (If I’m not reading it wrong) there’s a way to jailbreak a 3.74 vita? If I’m right about that, then what’s the point of downgrading?

Also, how exactly would one get started in downgrading? Is it possible to do it from the vita, or will I have to plug it into my PC?
