Left stick on DS3 won't register forward input

I've done the thing in this video to fix ghost inputs and everything works fine except my left joystick doesn't register forward input unless I pull the stick up or push it in. It will accept any other direction normally, even diagonal forward (upper right or upper left), but not forward.

EDIT: More problems, battery is in but doesn't seem to work and vibration turns the controller off. Also, the controller did not work beforehand so I'm fine if it's something I won't be able to fix.
