Built a Slate to compare to my Boxy.

[Released: 1989] The Game Boy is Nintendo's second handheld system following the Game & Watch series. Despite many other technologically superior handheld consoles introduced during its lifetime, the Game Boy was a tremendous success.

Built a Slate to compare to my Boxy.

Built myself a Boxy Pixel a few months back, and wanted to check out the Slate.

Got this ags-001 from my local game store and decided to give it a shot.

The screen isn’t as bright as newer laminated IPS screens, but the colors are super vibrant and come through better. The shoulder buttons have a little more give than I like, but every other button was crisp and nice once I tightened/loosened the screws to the right point.

I like that you can use regular GBA SP buttons with the Slate, whereas you are forced to use the machined aluminum ones with the Boxy (which after some tuning are excellent to play with).

The Slate is way more pocketable than the Boxy, which is already great for that.

Both suffer from classic SP hand fatigue, because I’m an adult and my hand is meant for the DMG.

Initial impressions between the two, for everyday play, I choose the Slate… for now.

I will update further down the road.

P.S. don’t super glue the shoulder pins.
