Mednafen error messages

Anyone have experience trouble shooting Mednafen? The tutorial I watched just said to drag and drop files onto the .exe but I'm getting errors when I attempt this. Sometimes it tells me the file type is unsupported but tells me the file is an .mp3 even though it isn't, other times it tells me the file is too big, some times it says the file doesn't exist even though it obviously does. What am I doing wrong?
