Is it OK and safe to cut off smd caps from a sega nomad

[Released: 1988] The Sega Genesis was Sega's most successful console; though Sega has never released a total sales figure quote. Several add-ons were created including the Sega CD and Sega 32X which extended its capabilities.

Is it OK and safe to cut off smd caps from a sega nomad

Post by /genesis »

I want to replace the surface mount caps in my sega nomad. I do not have a hot air rework station. I have cut smd caps in a game gear sound board before it worked better than trying to use my soldering iron to slowly remove the cap. Which sometimes tore the pads off. Is it safer to cut the smd cap than trying to unsolder the caps. Also I was going to cut from the indention above the plastic part that covers the legs.
