System update hate

Why won't Xbox notify me when system updates are available? Every single time an update comes down, my game is interrupted and I'm automatically kicked offline because it's become "mandatory." And before anyone suggests it, having my Xbox in standby or "always on" mode is something that just won't work for me for various reasons. I've asked them nicely to just send us notifications, repeatedly, and it seems they just ignore me. Would it really be that hard for them to notify us? Is there anyone else out there who hates this?
