Populous the beginning not working on project eris

Running project eris on my ps classic and have tried many a download of populous the beginning. It appears on the menu screen, but every time I go to load it, all I get is a black screen.. I've even purchased the original game and ripped it myself into a .bin and .cue file but still no joy? Is there anyway to get this working??
