Softmodding my Xbox- anything I should know?

Hello, I'm planning on softmodding my Xbox soon for when Insignia releases. I figured I'd ask what else I should do, or if there's anything important I should know, while it's modded. I'm planning on returning it to a stock system once I've finished registering Insignia. Will removing the softmod affect any important system files?
