Help: Backwards compatibility issue — Black screen

[Released: 2005] As the second console from Microsoft, the XBOX 360 completely sold out upon release in all regions except in Japan. About 33% of all consoles became defective making it the most unreliable console ever created.

Help: Backwards compatibility issue — Black screen

I bought a copy of Silent Hill 2 for the original Xbox. I knew that some technical issues could happen, but didn't expect it to be this severe.
So the disc runs (no update needed, which I think is weird), the white Xbox logo shows up, then a black screen appears. I'm on the main menu, as I hear sounds from going back and forth in the options. If I wait, the intro video plays, but no video signal is displayed.
I tried an older TV model, I tweaked the resolutions, tried another HDMI cable. Same result.
I would be very grateful if someone could give me a hint in what's happening, how can I troubleshoot this.
